This is a list compiled of five of my favorite affordable vintage knit sweater brands. This list features brands that released sweaters before the year 2000 and can be purchased at a price range of $20 – $50. Though some of these brands may be more niche than others, they all have a presence in the vintage reselling world and can be easily found via eBay, Poshmark, Depop, Grailed, etc.
Boston Traders
Boston Traders vintage sweaters are very high quality and seem to look better as they age. They are known for their heavy 100% wool sweaters. They offer a diverse array of styles and knit patterns but don’t have many plain basics. Most of their vintage sweaters were made in the U.S.A., but were slowly cycled their products to be produced overseas. These sweaters can be found around the price of $30.
Pringle of Scotland
Pringle of Scotland is a high-end clothing brand that offers amazingly priced vintage garments. They are known for their Made in Scotland wool and cashmere knit sweaters. A lot of their styles are plain basics or cable knits, but they also have a playful side to them. Often depicting scenes or sports. These sweaters can usually be found between $40 – $50.
Old Glory
Old Glory is not the largest brand, but produced a surprisingly large variety of sweaters in the 90s. They offer styles that are more toned down and classic, like the photo above, all the way to the Coogi-esc pattern. On this list, this brand surprises me the most in terms of creativity and color choices. These medium to heavyweight sweaters are Made in the U.S.A. and can be found in the range of $20 – $50.
Campus
Campus is a true heritage sweater brand. Around since 1922, they’ve dripped out your grandparents, parents, and now you. Known for their sleek and simple designs, but have produced many sweaters with abstract patterns like the one above. These Made in the U.S.A. sweaters can be found between $20 – $50.
Eddie Bauer
Eddie Bauer is the most prolific brand on this list, and there is a good reason why. They make high-quality garments suited to last in the rugged outdoors. Most of their sweaters are made out of cotton, wool, or a blend. They used to be strictly Made in the U.S.A. but started to be manufactured overseas during the 90s. These sweaters can be found in the range of $20 – $40.
