Many people probably have not heard of Addict Converse before. If they did, they might not know the exact differences between those and Chuck 70s. It seems difficult to find information about Addict converse online so I thought it would be a good idea to compile the information I found on here.
Addict is Converse’s ultimate shoe line for the more fashion-concious people. Addict Converse are for Converse Addicts. The designs are based on heritage models with classic details. Featuring a vibram sole, the Addicts offer more durability than your standard Converse or Chuck 70s. They also have very distinct details that sets them apart to those who know. Seeing Addict Converse out in the wild is a real treat.
Sizing
9.5 Nike = 8.5 Addict Converse & Chuck 70s
Addict Converse and Converse Chuck 70s are very similar in sizing. Whatever your size is in the 70s should be your size in Addicts. They both are on the narrow side of sizing. If you have standard to narrow feet, get one full size down from your regular sneaker size (ex. most Nikes). If you have a wider foot, try a half size down.
Sole
The easiest distinction between Addicts and Chuck 70s is the sole. Mentioned above, all Addicts have a vibram sole. If you do not know what vibram is, it is a heavy duty sole that is used on many work boots and shoes for functional use. Vibram offers many sole types for all weather conditions and they are extremely durable, offering years of intense wear. Comfort wise, they are what you might expect from a very flat soled shoe. The Addict will provide slightly more comfort than the Chucks, but do not expect the same comfort level of a running shoe.
When comparing the layers of the sole between the two, we see that the Addict insole has a more elaborate system where a cushion specifically for the heel is placed. The insole in the 70s still offers cushion with a more basic design. Under the insole, the midsole of the Addict is a much thicker layer of foam (khaki). The midsole of the 70s is a much smaller layer of foam (blue).
Sole Texture
The outsole of the Addicts always have a matte quality to them. On the other hand, the 70s usually have a glossy finish. Additionally, the Addicts have a thicker sole most likely because there is more cushion inside the sole. One theory that I have is that the difference in texture will prevent the sole from cracking – which happens often in Chuck 70s.
Star Logo
For the classic Converse All Star logo on high tops, the Addict converse have a printed version while the 70s have an embossed patch. Also, there are differences in the stitching of the forefoot portion of the upper. The ankle collar has a slimmer fit on the Addicts compared to the 70s. Lastly, the tounge on the Addicts are longer and lack contrast stitching.
Availability
Unfortunately, Addict Converse are only available for retail in Japan. To get them here in the US, we must use other methods such as proxy websites or resell means like ebay or second hand websites (ex. Buyee Japan, Ebay, 2nd Street). On the other hand, Chuck 70s are not available in Japan, so they must purchase with other means too. Because of how uncommon they are in the US, you will only see them worn by Converse fanatics. All new seasons of Converse Addict can be viewed at the Converse JP website.
